It was great to catch up with legendary aviator, Guy Devenny! (background talking with Gerry)

RAA 4901 and COPA Flight 10 brought friends and aviation enthusiasts together for a steak night and fundraiser at Mulberry’s on Saturday, January 30.  A big thanks to everyone for buying and selling tickets to this event – your efforts brought 101 people out and made this event possible!

Silent Auction

Cesar and Marc and the silent auction items
Cesar and Marc and the silent auction items

The silent auction was a lively event that included a real variety of items – some of which I may have missed in the list below!  Any omissions are unintentional:

  • framed aviation prints by Gary Thompson
  • framed photograph by our own Cory Cox
  • coffee maker
  • framed photograph of an F-18 by Colin Kunkel
  • winch
  • case of pot lights
  • framed Glen Scrimshaw print
  • iPad mini
  • sky-diving gift certificate
  • gift certificate to the Cave
  • furnace service gift certificate
  • teapot and tea collection
  • home gift basket

Thank you to Murray for organizing the auction, everyone who donated items and those who bid on them also.

Entertainment

A big thank you to the grade 10 jazz band trio from Walter Murray Collegiate who entertained us before supper and to rising country star – Shantaia Poulin – who sang to us after supper.  Thank you Shane for rounding up the talent and a big thanks to Gary and Shane who moved drums, amplifiers, etc. to and from Mulberry’s.

Jan & Johanna

Congratulations to the winner of the 50-50 draw, Johanna,  who went home with an extra $225 last night!  She was smiling with Jan long before the draw!

What do think?  Do we do this again next January?

    • Hi Brad,

Thank you! Shane did the heavy lifting on the front end of this one – for sure. But from our end it was fairly light work with significant rewards:
      1. We raised serious much-needed funds in a very short time.
      2. The event brought together and reconnected many people in the general aviation community.
      3. All members had to pull together to make this event a success – everything from organizing to donating items to inviting people to the event.

I hope we’ve ignited some sparks in the general aviation community!

    • Hi Cory,

It was a great idea! Thank you for your leadership in the recent revision of our clubs’ online presence.

I think the blog will help members who can’t be with us join our conversations and stay connected with the clubs. I hope it will inspire others to join us and participate in the promotion and the experience that is general aviation.

      Tammy
